Garmin announced the upcoming release of 2 handheld GPS devices with touch screen, the Oregon 550 and Oregon 550t, unique in offering a 3.2 megapixel camera with geotagging capabilities. The auto focus camera with 4x digital zoom and stores images in 850MB of memory on the device. Other features common to both include a 3 inch touch screen that allows the visualization with direct sunlight, a 3-axis compass and a waterproof design.Anura r for a microSD card allows users to expand storage and sharing photos with other devices. A USB cable is included with the devices, and the interface allows for quick downloading photos to a computer and uploads to Picasa.
Among the extras:
* City Navigator provides detailed maps of streets, "millions" of points of interest and directions step-by-step driving directions. There is also a navigation kit for the car is a car charger and mounts.
VD D * A microSD card or the United States TOPO 24K added 1:24000 scale maps that provide the terrain contours, elevations, summits, roads and trails, parks, coasts, rivers, lakes and geographical points.
* For navigation in the water, BlueChart g2 maps provide depth contours, port information.
* The devices are compatible with Garmin heart rate monitors and speed sensors, while mounting a handlebar of a bicycle that allows riders to see speed, distance, altitude and location.
The energy comes from a pair of AA batteries, with a pair of rechargeable NiMH batteries and a charger included. Garmin has also included a clip for the device.
The difference between the two devices is the inclusion of 100K preloaded maps of the United States in a 3D elevation perspective for Oregon 550t.
The Garmin Oregon 550 will be priced at $ 500, while the Oregon 550t will cost $ 600.
