After several rumors, Apple has finally introduced its long awaited Tablet PC called iPad, a tablet that aims to fill the gap between the iPhone and the MacBook through an overdeveloped the first version that combines the best of both designs: the iPhone's multi-front with rear aluminum MacBook.
As far as technical specifications are concerned, the iPad is based on a 1 GHz processor speed developed by Apple itself who have called A4 and offers all the power required to run the iPhone OS steroids and flowing smoothly on an LED display of 9.7 inch 1024 × 768 pixel resolution (the screen uses IPS technology to offer improved viewing angle and has 132 pixels per inch). Available in capacities ranging from 16 to 64 GB, the iPad has accelerometer, compass, GPS, speakerphone, microphone and WiFi 802.11n wireless connectivity and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR is extended with a second model to the 3G option.
Physically, the iPad is really thin. Only 1.32 inches thick at the peak (the edges are rounded so that we can hold in a more comfortable) and a size of 24.28 × 17.87 cm. The weight is not a problem, 680 grams for the standard version and 730 for the model with 3G connectivity.
The iPad boasts our latest technology in a revolutionary and magical device at a great price. iPad create and define an entirely new category of devices that connect users with their applications and content in a much more intimate, intuitive and fun to date. - Steve JobsAutonomy, one of the workhorses of the detractors of the iPhone, has been one of the surprises of the evening and if in other respects the iPad may have left a bitter aftertaste (no signs of multitasking or camera among others), this is not has been one of them. Neither more nor less than 10 hours surfing the Internet, watching videos or listening to music and almost a month to rest.
iPad Operating System and Applications
• "Mac OS X and iPhone OS? How about a mixture of both? The iPad OS (unofficial name) becomes a version of the iPhone operating system that only adapted to the new screen size. Thus, we usually find a few cosmetic changes except for a modeled Dock in Mac OS X and the ability to use custom backgrounds. This new flavor of the iPhone OS can run most of your Apple applications in their original resolution or expanded to view them fullscreen if their developers have not bothered to devote a little time to edit them so they can take advantage of the advantages of the new screen resolution. The new version of the iPhone SDK with this role and iPad simulator out today so ... go for it guys! One detail, the operating system will offer support (also with predictive text) for nine languages including Spanish fortunately located (other than English, French, German, Japanese, Dutch, Italian, Chinese and Russian).
• Mail and Notes are the best example of the changes we can expect most applications: to have a larger screen, the application runs in a mode of two columns with drop down menus and a large secure virtual keyboard would make things easier when working with it as if it were a real one.
• Safari is basically a cross between the desktop version and the iPhone, one that unfortunately seems to drag (at least in presentation) from the same shortcomings of the latter: you wanted to support Flash? Well it seems that for now nothing.
• iCall and Address Book show drastic differences in their design, much more original and fun that makes them seem more real agenda an application itself.
• Maps offers a more seamless and successful experience in its mobile version and we can even access the view Street View running everything in a really smooth.
• As expected, the App Store and iTunes also have their space in the iPad offering little more than what we already know that only bigger and prettier.
• The iPad is also an iPod because it has the same capabilities to play music and videos that only younger siblings through an interface more reminiscent of iTunes for Mac than anything else. Furthermore, the additional power processor A4 Apple lets you play without problems H.264 video up to 720p and 30 fps.
• iPhoto, one of my favorites. In true style of his older brother, the image viewing application of the iPad has great design and all the functions you would expect, including albums, events, faces and places.
• iBooks, the application that converts an iPad eBook reader (for lack of electronic ink) by Apple itself. Its design emulates a book if we can interact on clicking on any corner to page through or move a finger, change the text size, skip directly to another chapter from the summary, and so on. Best of all is that it uses ePub, the standard format in electronic book readers (most except the Kindle) so that we may be able to import our own books in addition to those that we acquire in the new store from Apple, iBookstore in which we find (at least in the U.S.) some of the catalog publishers Penguin, Harper Collins, Simon & Schuster, Macmillan and Hachette.
• Among the Games listed are worth highlighting the first-person shooter Nova Gameloft, a version with enhanced graphics and controls with respect to the equivalent of iPhone, and Need for Speed Shift of Electronic Arts, definitely better than any iPhone game yet though approach which gives a laptop today as far as graphics are concerned. That yes, in both cases is clear the advantages of having a larger screen which, although still a lack of real controls, at least we can use the virtual joystick without clogging our fingers most of the image. Moreover, it opens the door to greater interaction with new gestures like swipe three fingers across the screen to open a door in the case of Nova.
• Two non-Apple applications that are outstanding are Brushes, an artistic drawing application support layers, brushes, zoom up to 32x and is also able to reproduce the process of conducting our work, and implementation of the New York Times much like a real newspaper only that here you can change the number of columns, enlarge the text or view it in landscape mode. Sure to be imitated by more than one national newspaper.
• And best for last: iWork versions made expressly for the iPad Pages, Keynote and Numbers. Plain and simple, this is a version of our favorite office suite redesigned to fit perfectly to a multitouch interface, being by far the most comprehensive and robust application that we've seen so far. In this case, we are closer to the type of applications we can expect from a Mac than on an iPhone and each will be priced at $ 9.99.
iPad Connectivity
As already mentioned, besides the base model is the market a second model with 3G contracts for which there will be made especially for it in a way similar to what happens with the iPhone. Thus, in the U.S. AT & T will offer two types of prepaid contract: one of 250MB for $ 14.99 for users who seek only download mail and see some other website and download an unlimited $ 29.99 per month. Steve Jobs has placed emphasis on making sure there will be no contract needed and may cancel it at the time we want.
Regardless of the country where we are, the iPad 3G will be sold unlocked without exception, and although Apple will try to make special arrangements with various companies we work we can always use the one we prefer.
iPad Accessories
Apple has not waited for other manufacturers to reach the batteries and make the fortune selling accessories for the iPad. You want a holster? iPad Case, who not only protects our tablet but also allows us to put in different positions in a convenient and simple. You seek the comfort of a physical keyboard? No, you can not use (at least not for now) your newly upgraded wireless keyboard but at least you have a choice, the iPad Keyboard Dock, basically a fusion between the Apple keyboard and a more balanced version of the classic Dock. Still you left money on the card? Well, nothing, the iPad Dock without keyboard, the iPad Camera Connection Kit for connecting via USB to import photos or downloaded directly by its version with an SD card reader or USB Power Adapter iPad to load directly from the power supply will do the rest.
Apple Tablet iPad Pricing and Availability
IPad Each model is available with capacities of 16GB, 32GB and 64 GB for $499, $599 and $ 699 for the model with WiFi connectivity and $629, $729 and $829 for the model with WiFi and 3G. The basic version with WiFi will be available for international sooner than expected: in just 60 days, while the iPad 3G model will be delayed another month, probably because of the different tests that undergo this type of device to ensure complying with regulations in different countries.
